AirAsia Group highest recipient of ATR approvals: Mavcom Others

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Group received the highest Air Traffic Rights (ATR) at 16 in the third quarter (Q3) of 2019, according to the Malaysian Aviation Commission’s (Mavcom) ATR update.
This was followed by Malindo Air and Malaysia Airlines Bhd with eight and five allocations respectively.
During the period, Mavcom said it had approved 31 ATR applications, being 100 per cent of all applications received during the quarter.
Of the 31 applications, 38.7 per cent were for domestic routes, while 61.3 per cent were for international routes.
Mavcom approved ATR for 12 domestic routes, 10 ATR for routes to Asean destinations, five for destinations in China, three for other Asian destinations and Australia, and one for a destination in India.
“Of the 31 ATR, 14 were issued for flights originating from KL International Airport (KUL), three from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI), and the remaining 14 from other Malaysian airports,” it said.
In addition, 19 ATR that were approved in previous quarters were not utilised by the respective airlines and were subsequently returned to Mavcom during the third quarter of 2019.
Mavcom said the highest number of unused ATR was from AirAsia Group with eight, and Malindo Air with seven.
“An additional four applications were also voluntarily withdrawn by the airlines in that period,” it said.
Mavcom said from January 1 to September 30, it had approved 100 per cent of the 135 ATR applications it received during that period. This was represented by 48 domestic ATR, 45 for Asean destinations, 21 for destinations in China and the remaining 21 for other Asian destinations and Australia.
AirAsia Group received the highest number of ATR allocations for the year to date, with 64 ATR.
The Air Traffic Rights Report is released on a quarterly basis.
