Thailand extends visa fee waiver to April TravelNews

Thailand’s cabinet agreed on Tuesday to extend the waiver of a 2,000-baht visa on arrival fee for nationals of select countries until the end of April to boost tourism, according to Tourism and Sports Minister Veerasak Kowsurat.
The waiver for nationals of 20 countries, including China, was originally set to end on Sunday.
The extension hopes to boost tourist arrivals during the Chinese New Year holidays in early February and the Songkran festival in the middle of April, Bangkok Post reported.
The move comes amid a tip in tourism arrivals from mainland China over the past few months due to multiple factor, including the economic slowdown in China and a tourism disaster last July that killed dozens of Chinese tourists when a boat capsized off Phuket.
