Perak Tourism Needed a New MAsterplan TravelNews

The tourism industry of Perak will need a major overhaul to be market and promote the state as one of the best tourist destinations in the country.
New state Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing was committed to make it happen following his appointment to the post last month.
He said there was much to do and a new tourism masterplan was high on his to-do list.
Tan said he had been meeting relevant agencies under his portfolio and also met with the tourism industry players to gain a better understanding.
“I just chaired my first tourism committee meeting on June 4.
“There are some major but fundamental issues that must be resolved.
“There’s also no masterplan to promote tourism in Perak and no clear vision for the industry,” he said.
“The promotional items like pamphlets, billboards and what is on social media are too conventional and do not have any impact. I think we can do better,” he says.

When asked on the possibility for a new airport, Tan said it has not been brought up in state exco meetings.
“We will talk about it or see if we can still upgrade the existing Sultan Azlan Shah airport.
“Maybe we can acquire some land to extend the runway. There’s no decision yet but we will see,” he said, adding that flights from Singapore, Johor Baru and Medan are still coming in.
Tan joined PKR in 2008, after the Pakatan Rakyat formed the state government.
He was Gopeng MP Dr Lee Boon Chye’s personal assistant.
